Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are “insured,” meaning that you have worked long enough and paid your Social Security taxes. As the name implies the benefit is something that you have earned. Social Security uses a particular definition of disability. It pays only for total disability. No benefits are payable for partial disability or for short-term disability.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs-based program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes). Sometimes known as "The Safety Net,” it helps aged, blind, and disabled people who have little or no income and do not have enough recent work credits to qualify for SSDI. It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
Attorney Stephen P. Maguire is a Social Security claims lawyer who can get you the disability benefits you deserve. He is licensed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Qualifying for disability benefits through the SSDI or SSI program requires proof of an inability to work FULL-TIME for ONE YEAR or more due to a mental or physical impairment, or combination of impairments. These impairments must be severe enough that they have prevented you (or are likely to prevent you) from performing work tasks on a regular full-time basis.
As a Social Security claims law firm, we've helped thousands of people get the benefits they deserve. Some clients had chronic pain from a back injury or neck injury. We’ve also helped clients who had suffered heart attacks or strokes. Some had multiple sclerosis, seizure disorders, hepatitis, kidney disease, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, or chronic fatigue.
Pain that is serious enough to limit your capacity to lift and carry, sit and stand, or concentrate for extended periods of time affects your ability to keep a regular full-time work schedule. Your inability to work may stem from a work injury or an auto accident. The cause of the impairment does not matter. The impact on your ability to work is what counts.
Some of our clients have no physical impairments, but live with one or more mental impairments: depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or an anxiety or panic disorder. These clients often find it impossible to get out of the house on a regular basis. Some mental disorders prevent some people from getting along with their supervisors or co-workers. These people lose job after job due to arguments, fights, poor performance, or by being chronically late or absent.

Mr Maguire helped me apply for SSDI benefits over 16 years ago. I had already been denied twice before I hired him and he helped get me approved. Since then I have recommended him to numerous friends that needed a Social Security lawyer and I have only received positive feedback from each and every one of them. Even after 16 years, I can call him with any questions regarding my benefits. That’s customer service.
